Gardening Problems in Duluth, Georgia.

When you really get down to it, growing a garden is a lot more work than people think. We may like to think that all we have to do is put some seeds in the ground, pull a few weeds, and make sure to water the plants enough, but anyone who fruits-850491_1920.jpghas ever done some gardening knows that that isn’t always the case. In fact, that is rarely the case. Growing a successful garden takes a lot of time, energy, and usually brings a bit of frustration because no gardener can predict everything that may go wrong. If you are thinking about starting a garden on your property here are a few things to keep in mind as you go about your business.

Soil Matters

One of the best things you can do to ensure a successful garden is to do the preparatory work well. This means preparing the soil by adding the necessary nutrients and making sure the soil is soft enough to allow root growth. Especially in Georgia, it is important to test your soil because there are many areas that are too acidic or not acidic enough to support plant growth. Areas also have a high clay content making the soil hard to grow in. Doing this type of work before you think about putting seeds in the ground will keep you from regretting even trying to start a garden.

Bugs and Insects

It is an unfortunate thing that bugs and insects really enjoy a lot of the things you are likely going to be trying to grow in your garden. Those lovely fruits and vegetables aren’t just delicious to us. If you are going to start a garden, it is a great idea to read up on a few of the types of insects prominent in your area and what signs to look for if they may be infesting your garden. Most insects or bugs can be controlled or deterred with natural ways or with pesticides, but knowing what you are dealing with helps you make a better decision on what method to use.

Disease

Yep, plants get them. Diseases can be a big problem for some people in their gardens. This again goes back to knowing what is infecting your plants to best know how to treat them. There are a lot of great ways to prevent, treat, and control for disease in garden plants, but they are most effective when you know what you are targeting. The great news is that you can typically google the symptoms your plant is displaying and get a pretty good idea what is going on. If you are having trouble with that, there are many gardening places that you can take an infected leaf (or pictures of your plant) to and they will be able to help you decide what needs doing.
