Poisonous Plants For Eating

Plants can harm humans and animals in different ways, one of which is the effects they have if they are eaten and ingested. Many plants that have poisonous features have them as a defense against harm. Some common plants that you may have about such as oleander, yew, and boxwood are all dangerous if their leaves are eaten. The good news is, most poisonous plants don’t exactly taste good, which helps prevent eating enough to be truly harmful. Seeds from other plants such as castor bean, wisteria, or mistletoe, can also be dangerous if consumed.

Poisonous Plants For Touching

These plants are particularly important for those that enjoy the outdoors to watch out for as all it takes is brushing up against them to feel their effects. Poison Oak is a great example of these types of plants, both the Western and the Eastern types. The sap that covers these plants doesn’t seem harmful at first, but after a while and some exposure to UV rays, you will experience burns, redness, and even blistering. Poison Sumac is another plant to watch out for. This colorful plant with its 13 leaflet stem looks inviting but it is anything but. Stinging Nettle is another well known poisonous plant to watch out for. Interestingly enough, you can actually eat stinging nettle when it is cooked properly, but otherwise it is quite dangerous.
