You take the time to fertilize, pull weeds, mow and water it every week, but sometimes what you do may not be enough. This can be a sign that there may be otherseedingblog.jpeg problems at hand. Have weeds begun to take over and spread throughout your lawn? Have you applied weed controls, pesticides, fungicides and still not seen an improvement? If you find that your lawn is still about 50 or 60 percent weeds after you have done everything you can, it may be time to use more drastic measures.

It may be time to re-do and re-seed your lawn if you can’t get it back to a healthy state any other way. One way to take out your lawn so you can reseed it is to lay plastic over it, completely covering the grass and soil. This prevents sunlight from reaching the plants and soil. After the grass dies, remove the plastic and rake out the dead plants and weeds.

At this time it is vital to take care of the soil health before trying to reseed your lawn. Make sure to do a complete and thorough soil test. You can do this buy choosing three or four areas of your lawn to dig up dirt and mix it up together before having it tested. After the results come back, take all necessary measures to restore the soil to the best possible composition to make sure that it will support healthy turfgrass.

Once you remove the dead grass and weeds, till in the fertilizers and soil conditioners that you were advised to use from your soil test, and smooth out the ground. It is time to apply some starter fertilizer and seed the lawn. Make sure you know what types of turfgrass grow best in the area and talk with your local lawn care experts to decide what will do best in your lawn.

Lay down the seeds and rake them lightly into the soil to get them protected and ready to grow. Make sure to thoroughly water the seeds without overdoing it. Be careful to keep them protected and make sure to keep the conditions prime for growth.
