While Fall itself is a ways off, and the summer is still in swing, it can be a good time to take stock of how well your yard and garden are doing to give you an idea of what kind of work you are going to want to do in preparation for Fall. autumn-494390_1920.jpgTo help keep you thinking ahead and keep you on your toes, here are some end of summer and pre-Fall tips to keep your property looking lovely and nicely groomed.

As summer gets to an end and the temperatures start to drop back down some, it is the right time to do a thorough inventory of how well your plants and yard fared so far this year. Look at the yard and assess what damage it has, dry spots, dead spots, fungi problems, and so on. Look to address all the specific problems that you can to restore the yard to full health before Fall and Winter roll around.

As you are taking stock of how your yard and garden fared, it is the prime time to weed out all the weeds that may be springing up as well as general cleaning out of flowerbeds and the corners of your yard that may catch debris that blows about. Leaves, trash, weeds, and other things can pile up along fence lines, and other places. Take a moment to clean it all out in preparation for Fall!

Walk through your garden and check the soil quality. Do soil tests or have them done by professionals to find and correct any imbalances the soil may have. Applying a high quality fertilizer can be a great idea in the Fall because it can help prime your yard and garden for the next year as well.

While you are checking out the soil, it is a good time to look for places that need to be mulched. This can be new places that you want to add some to protect plants, add a classy look, or else areas that have had their mulch washed away or is thinning out. Staying on top of keeping your mulch layers at an appropriate thickness and in place, is important for protecting your plants and keeping soil from washing out.
