Find me on:

Moles can really tear up a yard or lawn in Cumming or Alpharetta, GA if left unchecked. They aren’t exactly a quiet, unknown presence in your lawn. Mole hills start springing up around the yard or in the flower beds. mole-13299.jpgSurface tunnels may be the worst part, those dirt ridges in the yard that zigzag around the yard and really take away the serene look of your lawn. Most of the time moles will actually tunnel deeper into the ground, not at surface. If there is a lot of activity on the surface it may signify that the moles are looking for mates.

Moles are interesting looking little creatures. They are categorized as mammals and they usually weigh around 4 ounces. They have very small eyes and a pointed, hairless snout. Typically, moles are the most active in the spring and fall times of year. The are early risers but will also be active later at night as well.

Many people in Cumming and Alpharetta, think that moles are going to go after the vegetable garden, but moles are actually primarily carnivores! They like to feast on insects and grubs in the lawn. So if you are dealing with a large infestation of moles in your yard, it may be a sign that you are having some other soil pests, as well.

There are fortunately a lot of options for getting rid of moles in your yard. Having a pet cat can be a big deterrent for many lawn pests to avoid the area or move out if they are already there. If you aren’t a cat person, don’t fret, there is still a host of other options.

Traps are highly effective in removing the unwelcome lawn visitors. There are plenty of humane traps that won’t harm the mole but will allow you to remove them from your lawn and release them far away from your yard and from others’ yards as well. Five miles is a pretty good distance to keep in mind when releasing the little guys back into the wild.

Moles are also not fans of vibrations in the ground. You may have luck driving them out of your lawn by placing windmills designed to send vibrations into the ground around your lawn. You can find these at local hardware and lawn care stores.

Some organic methods are sprinkling red pepper flakes or coffee grounds near tunnel entrances and exits are other deterrents for moles. Coffee can be used around the yard to prevent moles from making any more tunnels, they typically do not like it and will avoid areas that have been treated with it.
