Mowing Your Fescue Low: The Dangerous Myth Of Lawncare in Atlanta, Georgia.

Posted by Greenfeet Lawncare on Sep 24, 2017 9:03:00 PM

Lawn care can get quite monotonous throughout the summer months in Atlanta, Georgia. You have to drag out the hoses, set up sprinklers, remembergrass-2215740_1920.jpg to move them around the lawn, and when to turn them on and off. Not to mention you are also most likely watching for weeds and doing some pulling, spraying, shoveling, or any combination of those!

On top of that you have to be careful to watch out for any signs of disease or infestations of bugs. There seems to be an endless number of things that can go wrong with your lawn and it can be exhausting trying to put all the care into it by yourself.

The first mowing of the summer months as the grass begins to grow and get its sweet green color back can be exciting and enjoyable. As the summer begins to roll on and the excitement of getting your lawn back together starts to wear off, you may find yourself wanting to find some shortcuts or even just neglecting to do some of the work your lawn needs. Does your lawn really need to be watered on that strict of a schedule? What if you just forego the weed eating this week? It will be fine if you just take a few more days before mowing.

The things we tell ourselves to make ourselves feel better about not sticking to our lawn care schedule are wide and varied, and for the most part...a few extra days between mowing isn’t going to kill the lawn. The weed eating around the property line can probably wait til the weekend, and it is ok if you struggle a bit to keep the perfect watering schedule. Your grass will tell you if you are doing something to it that isn’t good for it.

How do I mow?

The one dangerous myth that many homeowners have at least thought about, considered, or maybe have even done is to set the mower to a shorter setting in hopes that they won’t have to mow quite as soon if the grass is shorter after a mowing. This is abundantly false and quite harmful to your lawn. When you cut your grass too low it allows the sun to bake the soil, weed seeds to get the sun they need to grow, and expose surface roots to scorching heat.

All these things are very hurtful to your lawn and you may start to notice patches dying off or losing color if you have begun to mow too low. Instead of taking shortcuts to avoid the strenuous lawn care hours, hire a professional company to take care of many of your lawn’s needs. You will feel better and you know your lawn will, too.
