Brown Patch

Another disease that presents itself in dying patches of grass, brown patch can cause problems for a lawn when the weather is wet and hot. (Your lawn isn’t safe if it is experiencing drought or wet weather!) The weather that is perfect for this disease is temperatures that remain hot even during the night hours. Brown patch appears in large circular like patterns. The circles may be irregular or have some strange jogs in their design, and can be up to several feet wide. Frog Eye Disease (Necrotic Ring Spot)

Yet another disease to watch out for this summer, is necrotic ring spot, or its more common name, frog eye disease. This can be caused by improper mowing or poor watering schedules and procedures. The weather patterns you want to watch for that promote this disease is a time of water stress, followed by wet weather. This disease causes yellowed out rings in your lawn.

Red Thread Disease

Somewhat less commonly talked about, red thread disease can give your lawn a pinkish red hue from a distance. Red thread typically shows up when the lawn is out of balance with some nutrients, meaning, if you notice red thread popping up, it is probably time to give your lawn a good fertilization. Restoring nutrients the grass needs will help the grass combat the red thread disease.
