Throwing a summer get together is a great way to catch up with friends, play games, make memories, and bond with family members. garden-3585.jpgSo how do you throw the backyard party that everyone will rave about for months to come? Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

One of the best ways to ensure that you will have a great party is to set the scene for a great night before your guests arrive. This means setting up seating (and plenty of it for the number of guests you will have), having games on hand, and doing a bit of yard work to get things looking trimmed and cared for. When people feel comfortable and like what they see, they are more likely to relax and have a good time, which is the point of having a get together in the first place!

If you are having a late night party, remember to figure out your lighting before it gets dark. Consider stringing some outdoor lights on deck railings or overhead for a soft, welcoming glow as the night goes on. Having a fire in a contained pit is another great way to provide lighting and warmth if the temperatures aren’t quite comfortable for you and your guests.

Decorating for your get together can be minimal or extensive depending on your budget and what kind of party you are going for. Consider paper lanterns, centerpieces on the tables, or flowers to complete the look of a styled deck or patio. Decor for themed parties will tend to be a bit more involved than a simple backyard get together, and that is fine! Look for good deals on the things you need and have places for. Don’t overdo it on the decorations as you don’t want it to look like you tried too hard. Keep it simple while accomplishing the look or theme you intended.

Food is going to be another very important part of your get together. Almost every party you go to, or want to go to, will have some sort of food, even if it is just snack food. Hungry guests are not happy guests. Let them know in advance if they should be expecting a meal or refreshments so they can arrive prepared. Make sure to keep cold drinks on hand, especially if you are having a party on a hot day.

At the end of it all, remember to have a good time with your guests and don’t miss out on your own party by being stressed out!
