Sprucing Up Your Tool Shed for Fall in Sandy Springs, GA

As fall approaches, there is a little time to get ready before any significant lawn improvement efforts begin. That means, you have time to do a little work on your tool shed. If this doesn’t sound exciting, you should check out these 5 ideas for sprucing up your tool shed.

5 Ideas for Sprucing Up Your Tool Shed

1. Lighting

The first thing to do in your shed, if you haven’t done it already, is get some light in there! Ideally, this will come from LED lights that won’t burn out for a long time. A simple switch or even motion-sensor activation will make seeing in your shed much easier during the winter months when much of the early evening is dark. Don’t rely on old, halogen bulbs that burn out and can’t handle extreme temperature changes. With LED, you are very unlikely to be without light. If you don’t have electricity to your shed, install a window or a skylight to keep the place lit.

2. Doors

So many sheds have doors that are hard to open because we haven’t fixed the hinges or cleaned out the tracks. Either replace the doors with something that requires less maintenance, or repair your old doors! Yard work is much less frustrating if you can get to your tools with ease.

3. Tool Organizers

It is hard to recommend a specific tool organizer because there are so many preferences for different types of people. The point is, your tools should be organized and not leaning up against the wall only to fall over whenever you want to get one. Hang them up or store them on shelves. The only things on the floor should be large items like mowers or yard bins.

4. Ventilation

Everyone is familiar with that first breath of air you take after walking into an unventilated tool shed. Hopefully it doesn’t have any toxic chemicals, but it definitely has dust or maybe even mold. Keep the air fresh by putting in a ventilation fan or vents near the ceiling or attic to keep air movement within the walls of your shed.

5. Repairs

The biggest thing you can do as fall approaches is to make any repairs on your shed that you’ve been putting off. The roof needs to be leak-free, and the walls need to be sealed enough that rodents don’t decide to make a winter home there. Don’t let these chores be left to be handled when a real problem strikes. Take care of it early, and enjoy your winter without any headache from your tool shed.
