Mother’s Day weekend is upon us and if you have forgotten and need a quick gift check out your local Nursery. You can find some great flowering plants and trees any Mother would be happy to have in there yard. I have listed a few here.

Knock Out Roses – These are great, they like full sun, are hardy, and flower all summer long filling the yard with a great aroma of roses. They come in several colors including pink, red, and yellowAzaleas – Azaleas do very well here in full and partial shaded areas and come in a wide variety of colors.knockoutroses.jpg

Gardenias – these smell great when they are in bloom. What Mom doesn’t love the smell of a gardenia? They like sun and shade and are pretty easy to grow but can attrack insects. gardenias.jpg

Star Magnolia – this flowering tree is one of my personal favorites. It flowering in the early spring with white star like flowers.star_magnolia.jpg

5. Hydrangeas – Hydrangeas like shaded damp areas. I recommend planting them near your air conditioning units, they can put out 10 gallons hydrangeas.jpgof water a day during the summer. They have beautiful ball like flowers and the colors are usually dictated by the soil ph. They are usually white, pink, blue, or purple.

I purchase most of my plant material at a local nursery versus a large DIY store. The plants cost a little more but are much better quality and you are supporting a local company. I like Scottsdale Farms in Milton, Georgia.
