Many people are staying home due to the coronavirus pandemic, and that is a great thing for virus prevention efforts. However, many of us are also getting stir crazy without our in-person social connections. One way to elevate the spirits during this time is to do some fun lawn activities. You’ll get outside, which is healthy for the body and spirit. You may be encouraged to stay home and socially isolate for more than a month, so make sure you make the best of it by engaging in lawn activities.

1. Gardening

Humans have an innate urge to connect with nature, and there’s no better way to do that than through gardening. Getting your gloved hands into the soil and planting fresh veggies or flowers appeases a calling in our souls. If you’re one of those who doesn’t find this connection to gardening, go out and pull some weeds from your flower beds. There’s something about the action of outdoor work that has a meditative effect.

2. Lawn Games

Even if you are alone, lawn games are there for you. Practice horseshoes, play croquet, bocce ball, or set up a badminton net. If you have family in the house, you may be able to play soccer or volleyball. The friendly competition will be a suitable replacement for your previous interactions with peers, and you’ll get some quality family time.

3. Start a Project

Being stuck at home makes you feel like you cannot do anything. In reality, you finally have time to do something. Go ahead and start an outdoor project. Start a compost pile, till a garden, or create a new walking path. You’ll feel accomplished once you get started, and that pent up feeling of helplessness will be lifted.

4. Get a Pet or Hobby Farm

If you have the property, now is a great time to get a pet or start a hobby farm. You have plenty of time to invest in training a dog, and now is a great time to get some young goats to raise as foragers and pets. If you are interested, raising chickens is another easy animal to raise, and you get eggs.

5. Relax

Lastly, sit out on your patio set and read a book, or at least relax. The world is a crazy place right now, but you can get solace in the presence of your own back yard or front porch. You just have to take the time to appreciate it.

Pandemic Happiness with Lawn Activities

The world will likely get worse before it gets better, which is why it is important to take care of yourself now by getting outside. Lawn activities give you an extra reason to experience your own yard and enable you to have some experiences while stuck at home.
