Different seasons call for different lawn care practices. It can be tempting to start slacking on the routine and lawn care when the end of summer is onpreparing for fall.jpg the horizon, but fall isn’t the time to loosen up your ship. Taking the proper measures this fall can help ensure a healthy lawn next spring that bounces back from the winter like no other. Keep The Regular Lawn Care Schedule

Even as fall approaches it is necessary to continue mowing and watering your lawn appropriately. As you get to the end of the season it can be appropriate to lower your blade setting some, as long as you don’t remove more than a third or so of the plant. By lowering the blade you can help more sunlight get to the soil and the crown of the grass. This also removes extra lengths of the grass blades that will be turning brown as the temperatures continue to drop and can make the yard look better as winter approaches.

Clean Up The Leaves And Debris

As the end of summer is coming up and fall is dawning, it can be tempting to leave some of the cleanup and caretaking to next spring, but it isn’t ideal. Instead of waiting and allowing things to sit and rot over fall and winter, take the time to rake up the leaves and dead plants about the lawn. You can mulch the leaves with a lawn mower and allow them to fertilize the grass some if you desire, just make sure they are shredded into small pieces that will disintegrate.

Aerate And Fertilize

Fall is a wonderful time to take stock of all that your lawn might be needing. After all the playing on the lawn and foot traffic it endured this summer, it is likely that the soil has been compacted and the grass has sucked up a lot of the nutrients from the soil. In order for grass to be ready to grow next spring, it is important to replenish the supply of appropriate nutrients. In order to do this effectively, the nutrients need to be able to penetrate the soil and get to the roots.

Take the time to aerate your lawn, or have a professional company do it to ensure a job well done. After aerating the soil and allowing oxygen and nutrients a way to get into the soil, make sure to use the right fertilizer to address your grass and soil needs. High quality fertilizer is a must if you want to see improvement in your lawn’s health next spring.
