We talk a lot about the things you should do to keep a healthy and green lawn. What people seem to talk less about are the things you should avoid doing to damage the health and beauty of your lawn. So today, standing-2737813_1920.jpglet’s review some of the common mistakes many people make that can have negative impacts on their lawn. You may find you do some of them yourself.

Mowing Wet Grass

It may be tempting to go ahead and start mowing that lawn when there is still some dew on it Saturday morning before you shower and get ready for the rest of your weekend, but don’t fall for it. Mowing wet grass causes all sorts of problems. One, your feet get all wet if you are using a push mower, you are more likely to slip, and the mower is going to get at least a little bit clogged. If you are utilizing the no bagging method and allowing the clippings to fertilize the lawn, they aren’t going to go over the lawn evenly, they will get all clumped up together and it’s just a mess. Wet grass blades that have been cut are also more likely to catch diseases. So, really, it is just best to wait until the dew dries and the grass isn’t wet.

Don’t Mow Your Lawn With A Dull Blade

What can we say? Mowing with a dull blade takes more of a toll on your grass. This means that your lawn has to put more effort and energy into healing those jagged cuts from your dull blade instead of fighting off disease and staying nice and green. You should be sharpening your lawn mower’s blades at least twice a mowing season.

Ice Melt On The Walkways

It seems like a good idea when the walkways, sidewalks, or driveways get a bit icy on cold nights, but this simple practice can have some pretty negative consequences when spring comes around or the temperature rises. All that salt that was used will get washed into the grass and can cause brown spots. To avoid this, make sure if you do use salt that you do so sparingly. Also, make sure to water the grass near the salted areas thoroughly when the weather starts warming up to avoid a salt buildup in one area.

4 Lawn Care Services Your Lawn Must Have

Do Not Over-Fertilize

Yeah, it is a thing. While some people underestimate the importance of a regular fertilization schedule, others are a little too fertilizer-happy. Have a professional help you with fertilization or make sure to at least only fertilize twice a year at the most.
