7 Lawn Care Myths That Can Be Messing With Your Lawn in Alpharetta, Georgia. (Pt. 1)

The way Americans tend to take care of their lawns is something that is partially based on science and partially based on culture. When it comes down to it, there are some pretty popular practices out there that aren’t necessarily doing your lawn any favors. This isn’t to say that all of these misconceptions are truly bad for your lawn, wall-702894_1920.jpgor that they are killing it, but there are probably some better ways you can go about restoring your lawn to that golf course dream state most of us secretly (or not so secretly) harbor.

Daily Watering is good for my lawn.

No. No. No. Daily watering does the opposite of growing a strong and healthy lawn. Frequent shallow waterings don’t encourage grass roots to grow deep into the soil where they can find nutrients and moisture even when the surface of the ground is being stressed. Instead, try watering less frequently but more thoroughly. This watering practice helps the roots to dig deeper into the soil and help the grass plant become more tough and resistant to drought, disease, and other lawn problems.

Guidelines for Watering Your Lawn in Georgia

Grass clippings need to be bagged and removed from my lawn.

There are many people that believe allowing grass clippings to remain on the lawn will increase the layer of thatch they have. This isn’t particularly true as the clippings are in reality mostly water and can actually help return some important nutrients such as nitrogen to the soil. You won’t want to dump a huge pile of the clippings in one place, but if you allow them to settle over the lawn in a thin layer, they will do half the fertilizing work you need! There are times when you should not allow your grass clippings to remain on your lawn. Look for our blog post on the topic coming soon!

If I utilize a lawn care program my lawn will always look great.

Sadly, this isn’t necessarily the case. While many lawn care programs are amazing at providing what a lawn typically needs, there may be underlying problems and causes for the things you have been seeing in your lawn. To put it simply, you may be treating symptoms with a basic lawn care program instead of treating the cause. If this is the case you may notice flare ups and issues that don’t seem to be cured and instead keep coming back.
